Lakshmana's bombshell

Waves of shiver are bound to strike those engaged in real estate business in Mysore as Association of Concerned and Informed Citizens(ACICM), a NGO, dropped a bombshell hinting that Infosys Mentor Mr Narayana Murthy may think of shifting the Global Training Centre on the sprawling campus in Mysore, if he is convinced that the Thermal Power Plant , which the Government wants to have in the Chamalapura Village, 30 kms from the City, in the face of opposition from the public, will have an adverse environmental impact on the campus.

ACICM Convenor M Lakshmana informed a meeting , convened on Aug 19 to discuss the future course of action to see that this "disastrous project" is dropped by the Government , as it was forced to do in the case of the Ghatprabha Thermal Plant , that Mr Narayana Murthy will be in Mysore on Aug 22 to have the first knowledge about the impact of the Chamalapura Power Plant Project..Any hint that ITs may be disinclined to start their units in Mysore or may shift the one established in Mysore will scare the real estate business houses who have in the recent past gone on investing money on the purchase of land by offering huge sums of money to farmers in and around Mysore, anticipating that Mysore is the most favoured destination for IT Units.Consequently the value of the vacant land sites has gone up by ten folds during the last 18 months.Similarly the house rent has registered a steep rise.
