A wildlife phenomenon

Wildlife history was being made the other day in African Savannah, as in one of the rarest of rare events, a herd of buffalo chased a pride of lions , and even gored the one and tossed it into air.

History was also made when the very lucky amateur-photographer -American tourist David Budzinski shot near a water hole in his video camera this remarkable, incredible spectacle, which, The Guardian reported from London , has taken the internet by storm.

The eight-and a half minute footage, dubbed By The Guardian as “Battle at Kruger” is packed with the most dramatic and astonishing events , what with the the pride charging the herd, even as the buffalos run in a great panic, in the process the small buffalo calf is caught, wrestled into water, a crocodile trying to snatch it, the crocodile ultimately gives up in the tug of war between them, the calf is drawn ashore and as hungry lions surround the hapless calf and are ready to feast on it, the herd returns and furiously takes on the lions, literally- chase them.

According to The Guardin over ten million people have watched (click to access the story and watch the unmissable video clip) the “epic scrap since he put it in May, and one of the Web-site founders, has proclaimed as his favourite clip of all time..It has become a phenomenon on You Tube (tinyurl.com/9jdop)”

  • I was the 10,00,0001st (have I missed a zero in the millions?) viewer of the video-clip that you simply shouldn't miss (never mind if you don't get the number of zeros right).
The video starts with an unsuspecting buffalo, breaking away from the herd for a drink of water, coming in the line of sight of a lazing bunch of lions.
Suddenly, you hear,'Oh gosh', from the bloke with the web-cam as the lions get on the hunt and pin down their victim in a waterhole.
And then a croc appears to grab the battered beast by its tail. At the other end, four lions try to drag it ashore.
Now it is the herd of buffs. to get agreessive. They converge on the hopelessly outnumbered group of lions. But then, lions being lions, manage to escape, but with humiliation of having been chased by buffalos.
As someone on the sound-track puts it, "Never seen anything like this".
